Verifiable Parental Consent is a mechanism set out by the Child Online Privacy Protect (COPPA) in the USA that defines how parents provide consent to a software platform and organization to process and store children’s data.
TeamLinkt helps organizations track and collect verifiable parental consent to assist in compliance.
VPC is typically collected during registration where payment for services is a primary verification method.
Who This Applies To :
While COPPA applies to anyone under the age of 13, TeamLinkt classifies “children” as anyone under 14 to also meet Canadian privacy requirements.
Players Who Register Through TeamLinkt :
TeamLinkt, and by extension Organizations, collects VPC during registration. No other action is required by you.
Players You Add or Import Yourself :
Your organization is responsible for consent any time you add a child's information outside of registration. This includes:
Importing a roster from a spreadsheet
Adding players manually to a team
Moving records over from a previous registration system
Entering information from paper forms
US customers must have VPC prior to manually importing players into TeamLinkt. Canadian customers need not capture VPC for manually imported players.
TeamLinkt must assume you have the rights and correctly gathered consents before entering data into our platform.
During the import process if we detect children under the age of 14, you will be prompted to confirm you have consent for the data you are importing.
Keep Your Records :
We encourage our US customers to keep consents for manually imported players in order to demonstrate that data can be imported into TeamLinkt.
Handle Parent Requests :
Parents and guardians can ask to review their child's information, stop further use of it, or have it deleted. If a parent contacts you with one of these requests, forward it to help@teamlinkt.com right away.
